Oxlajuj B’atz’, A Maya Weavers Resource Project
Oxlajuj B’atz’ (the name is that of an auspicious day in the Maya calendar “Thirteen Threads”) helps Maya craftswomen achieve greater self-sufficiency by making their craft production a more economically viable option and by offering training in craft and business skills, in leadership training and decision making, empowering them to provide a better income for their families and children. For five years, Oxlajuj B’atz’ has worked in conjunction with several fair-trade women’s cooperatives (Mayan Hands, Maya Traditions, Tejedoras Unidas) and has served over 300 women from six different Mayan language communities providing assistance and training.
